It took almost eight years, but Chappy and the Vineyard are joined at the hip once again. As reported by the Vineyard Gazette (and whose photo appears above) on April 2, the gap between the two islands closed so that the two became one. What do these changes mean? Well for starters, for the first time since 2007, four wheel drivers will have an option other than the Chappy Ferry to reach Wasque, Cape Poge, East Beach, Chappy Lighthouse and the gut. While the operators of the ferries might face an administrative burden (since round trips will no longer be the sole option), the waters of Edgartown Harbor should be calmed considerably given that the current will be stilled due to the blockage.
